In partnership with the Department of
Art, the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts offers:
- Border to Border, a national, biennial drawing
competition; and,
- The Visiting Artists Series, which
includes lectures and exhibitions by accomplished professional artists.
The APSU Department of Art
The APSU art department faculty are
practicing artists who have earned national and international renown.
Additionally, students learn from experts and visionaries teaching on an
adjunct basis, as well as visiting artists, designers, and craftsmen who
work with students in classroom and workshop settings.
APSU Galleries
With three galleries on campus, APSU offers constant exposure to unique,
contemporary and traditional art exhibitions.
- Trahern Gallery
offers a variety of visual arts experiences through numerous
exhibitions.
- Mabel Larson Gallery
is home to the University’s permanent art collection.
- Gallery 108
features the work of graduating art majors and visiting artists on a
weekly basis.
From ceramics to sculpture, you’ll find all kinds of art – and artists – at Austin Peay.
The Nashville Scene has hailed the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts for “attracting heavyweight poets for years…everyone from Gwendolyn Brooks and Allen Ginsberg to Galway Kinnell and Eavan Boland.”
Though you won’t see them on stage, visiting artists and artists-in-residence have a visible impact on APSU theatre and dance students.
The Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts sponsors the annual Clarksville Community Concert Series, which includes lectures and performances by renowned musicians such as classical guitarist Philip Hii, the American Brass Quintet and Grammy Award-winning ensemble Chanticleer.
