From ceramics to sculpture, you’ll find all kinds of art – and artists – at Austin Peay.

The Center of Excellence and department of art sponsor exhibitions and lectures by accomplished professional artists, student art shows and faculty exhibitions throughout the year.
The Nashville Scene has hailed the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts for “attracting heavyweight poets for years…everyone from Gwendolyn Brooks and Allen Ginsberg to Galway Kinnell and Eavan Boland.”

In addition to the visiting writers series, the Center supports Red Mud Review, a literary magazine produced by APSU students and Zone 3, a professionally produced international literary journal that sponsors poetry and fiction awards.
Though you won’t see them on stage, visiting artists and artists-in-residence have a visible impact on APSU theatre and dance students.

Sponsored by the Center, these artists share their experiences and knowledge through lectures, workshops and one-on-one interaction.
The Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts sponsors the annual Clarksville Community Concert Series, which includes lectures and performances by renowned musicians such as classical guitarist Philip Hii, the American Brass Quintet and Grammy Award-winning ensemble Chanticleer.

Additionally, the Center sponsors the Dimensions New Music Series, Mid-South Jazz Festival and Young Composers Competition.

Music

In partnership with the APSU Department of Music, the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts offers a wide range of ongoing music programs:

The Clarksville Community Concert Series, which has been bringing renowned performers and ensembles to APSU several times each year for the past 50 years. Individual tickets and season packages are available for purchase.
The Dimensions New Music Series, which presents contemporary music written since 1950 in three free concerts each year, and performed by faculty and guest artists.
The Mid-South Jazz Festival, which includes performances by the APSU Jazz Ensembles and a featured artist. The annual festival takes place in April.
The Young Composers Competition, through which student composers across the country compete for a financial award and to have their work performed as part of the APSU Dimensions New Music Series.
A wide variety of annual music festivals and workshops, including Choir Festival, Orchestra Festival, Opera Workshop, Honor Band, Piano Camp, and GuitarFest.

The APSU Department of Music

The APSU music students, faculty, and visiting artists are heard in more than 150 concerts each year. In addition to myriad performances, the music department offers instrumental, vocal, keyboard, and ensemble instruction from faculty who are nationally and internationally recognized performers, scholars, and educators.
