Accommodations
Accommodations are academic adjustments that apply to access materials in
alternate formats, adjustments to exam conditions, such as extended time or
taking an exam in a minimal distraction area, as well as having a note-taker.
Determination of Accommodations
Accommodations are determined based on review of submitted documentation from
the health care provider for its appropriateness and completeness under Section
504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of
1990 (ADA), and the Office of Disability Services documentation policy.
Accommodations are determined through a series of questions:
- Has an accommodation
request form
been submitted?
- With the requested accommodations, can the student
perform the essential tasks of the program?
- Are the requested accommodations reasonable? Section 504
and
ADA
guidelines are applied with respect to determination of “reasonableness.”
- Has the student provided appropriate documentation?
- Does the student have a disability? Section 504 and the
Americans with disabilities Act (ADA) criteria are applied.
- Is the student “otherwise qualified?”
