The ESL Institute - An Overview
F-1 Full-Time Academic Students
The Institute’s diversified and
intensive program of study in English is designed for international students
seeking undergraduate admission to APSU or another university. Students with
I-20s (a certificate of eligibility for F-1 visas) must enroll full-time (18
hours) and provide official high school or college transcripts. A basic
knowledge of English is desirable in order to benefit from the intensive
level of study in the program.
Go to the Application Process page for complete details.
Non F-1 Students
We welcome students from the Clarksville area
community who wish to improve their English language skills in order to
improve their workplace skills or further their professional careers.
Community resident students may enroll either full-time or part-time.
Students must provide proof of their citizenship or immigration status and a
photo ID. More information can be found on the
Application Process page.
APSU Undergraduate or Graduate Applicants
International students wishing to enroll at APSU
in an undergraduate or graduate degree-seeking program must meet APSU
admissions requirements, including a minimum score of 61 on the TOEFL iBT

Sponsors and Family Members
If you are a sponsor or family member of a new
F-1 student, we are here to answer your questions as well. You will receive
information about registration and a copy of our handbook to assist with any
questions you may have. You are welcome to contact us at any time as we work
together to make your student’s arrival in the U.S. and their studies at
APSU a very positive experience!
Conversation Partners
Conversation partners are fluent English-speaking APSU students who
volunteer to partner with ESL students promoting practice of the English
language in natural conversation and participation in various campus
activities and events. If you are interested in becoming a conversation
partner more information can be found in the
information and application form or
by contacting the ESL Coordinator.
APSU's International Student Community
Austin Peay has an active international community
with an International Education Office and the
International Student Organization. This includes the opportunity to
participate in the
Bridge Program.
ESL Student Handbook
The ESL Student Handbook provides students with a variety of information
