The ESL Institute - Your Travel to the U.S.

Before you leave your country, be sure you have:

  • Your passport and I-20
  • Your F-1 student visa
  • Housing arrangements finalized
  • Immunization records
  • Confirmed travel arrangements

Hand carry all of your important documents - including your passport, I-20, visa, financial resources, and contact information for your U.S. sponsor or guardian as well as the ESL Institute at APSU. There are further recommendations at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement website, including a fact sheet titled "Arriving at a U.S. Port of Entry."

Insurance

  • International students must provide proof of health insurance (translated into English) or purchase it through the University at the time of registration.
  • More information is found at the "Health & Insurance" page of this website.

  • Contact the ESL Institute as soon as you arrive; you must have an appointment to register. Call (931) 221-6270 or (931) 221-7175. If you arrive at our office without an appointment we may be busy with other students and unable to assist you until later.
