The Upward Bound Program provides the opportunity for students to participate

the subjects they take in school, and the world in general. Additionally, the
program is designed to acquaint participants with the university environment and
provide them with college-like experiences. Activities may include Art Exhibits,

During the summer immediately following high school graduation, participants
are expected to participate in the Upward Bound Bridge experience by taking two
classes at Austin Peay State University. Students earn six (6) semester credit
hours that count toward college graduation. Students participating in the Bridge
program will receive the Upward Bound Bridge Scholarship certificate at the high
school's awards ceremony. All fees (tuition, books, etc.) are paid for by Upward
Bound. Bridge participants are allowed $10 in supplies at the APSU bookstore.
Upward Bound provides all required textbooks, workbooks, etc.; however, all
reusable books are the property of Upward Bound and must be returned to the
program when classes are completed.
High School Upward Bound has been sending teams to Scholars' Competitions
since 1993, which was the first year Tennessee had unified teams from Upward
Bound compete. Since then, Austin Peay's High School Upward Bound has won 8 out
of 10 state competitions and four regional competitions. The last six years,
APSU's team has placed first at the state level, having gone undefeated the last
four years. The four Regional Competitions that the team has won, they have gone
undefeated as well.
