Tri-County Upward Bound
Welcome to Tri-County Upward Bound! Tri-County Upward Bound (TCUB) is
one of 964 Upward Bound programs funded by the U.S. Department of Education
across the United States and its territories. Upward Bound programs were
created in 1965 as component of President Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty.
TCUB has been in existence since 1999. Our mission is to assist
economically disadvantaged high school students from Cheatham, Houston and
Stewart counties with college enrollment. Students can also qualify for
participation if they are the first in their immediate family to potentially
enroll in college. Participants are usually selected during their freshman
or sophomore year. Usually based on college campuses, Upward Bound
programs typically provide tutoring, instruction, counseling and cultural
enrichment during the academic year. The summer component consists
of a six-week college simulation experience. Summer Session is a
residential experience on APSU;s campus with students living in a residence hall
and participating in academic enrichment classes, elective classes and
recreational/cultural activities. Students who remain in the program
through senior year of high school are provided with instruction and counseling
in college enrollment, ACT preparation and fee waiver, financial aid, career
assessments and study skills instruction. All services provided by TCUB
are entirely free to participants.
