Eriksson Scholars

If you are interested in teaching mathematics or science to high school or middle school students, consider applying one of the prestigious scholarships to receive funding to help advance you in your education career as a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) educator.The scholarship is available at three levels:

Al Williams Memorial Scholarship

The Al Williams Memorial Scholarship was established in honor of retired APSU Education professor, Dr. Alan Williams. This scholarship is open to all students who maintain a 3.0 GPA and are enrolled full-time within the College of Education. This is a one-time award.

We encourage you to apply each year through our APSU Scholarship Application. Although this scholarship is not automatically renewed, you could be considered if you reapply.

Claudell Wootton Art Education Scholarship

This scholarship was established in honor of Claudell Wootton and will be awarded to a student planning a career in art education. Need and teaching potential must be demonstrated. Selection will be made by the Department of Art & Design.

In order to be considered for this scholarship, submit a 300-500 word essay on why you are choosing a career in teaching visual arts when society places so much value on science, math, and technology? A sample lesson plan may be submitted if the applicant desires.

Portfolios must be submitted online (no physical portfolios will be accepted). They must be submitted no later than March 1st at 4 PM. Images must be PDF or JPG with a minimum of 1024×768 pixels. There should be between 8 and 20 images.

Award Amount - $500 possibly divided by multiple recipients

Dr. Haskell C. Phillips and Estelle Judd Phillips Scholarship

This award is administered by the APSU Alumni Association with funds provided by the Phillips family and friends in recognition of Dr. and Ms. Phillips’ professional contribution to education. This scholarship is available to students majoring in a biology program with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and demonstrated financial need. Candidates should be of at least Junior standing at time of disbursement. Special consideration is given to students seeking teacher licensure. Eligible students who are nominated by faculty will be notified early in the spring semester and asked to submit application for the award.

Fred and Melba Newton Education Memorial Endowment

The Fred and Melba Newton Memorial Endowment was established to provide a scholarship for one student in the College of Education and one student in the School of Nursing.

The recipient from the College of Education must meet the following criteria:

  • Student must be accepted into the College of Education’s Educational Leadership Program
  • Student must provide a letter of recommendation

The recipient from the School of Nursing must meet the following criteria:

  • Student must be admitted to the APSU School of Nursing
  • Student can pursue a BSN or MSN

This scholarship is not renewable, however, we recommend that you apply each year for all of the scholarships APSU offers.

Award Amount - $500

Gore Early Childhood Scholarship

Established in honor of Dr. Dolores Gore, this scholarship is awarded to an Early Childhood Education teacher in the College of Education. Recipient must be a full-time student (12 hours or more) and maintain a 3.0 GPA. This is a one-time award.

Hazel Dennis Bryant Memorial Scholarship

The Hazel Dennis Bryant Memorial Education Endowment was established in memory of Austin Peay graduate, Hazel Bryant, who taught nearly 50 years in Stewart County, TN. The scholarship recipient must be from Stewart County and admitted to the APSU teacher program. Awardee must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. Other scholarships are permissible. The scholarship is renewable.

Award Amount - $1600 possibly divided by multiple recipients

Hendon-Stokes Scholarship in Education

This scholarship was established by the late Dr. Elizabeth Hendon Stokes, the late Walter L. Hendon, Jr., and the late Dr. William G. Stokes, in memory of their parents, Walter L. and Gertrude Hendon and Glenn and Lurlene Stokes. This scholarship is for Special Education and Mathematics majors. Awards are based on need and merit as determined by the appropriate department faculty, with each department being given the opportunity to award a scholarship.

Hoppe Leadership Endowment

The Hoppe Leadership Endowment is provided to part-time graduate students at APSU. The Graduate programs include Management; Professional studies with concentration in Strategic Leadership; Corporate Communication; Nursing Administration; Educational Leadership; or HHP with specializations in Health Services Administration or Sport and Wellness Administration.

Award Amount - $4700 possibly divided by multiple recipients

Hoppe Pace Family Scholarship

The Hoppe Pace Family Endowment for Education Scholarship was established by the Pace family in honor of Dr. Sherry Hoppe. This is a one-time awarded scholarship to be awarded to a full-time (12 or more hours per semester) senior education student teacher. Applicants with financial need will be given priority.

Award Amount - $13200 possibly divided by multiple recipients

Janis and Mark Stedman Memorial Endowed Scholarship in Education

The Janis and Mark Stedman Memorial Endowed Scholarship has been established for a full-time student (12 or more hours) admitted into College of Education or the School of Nursing. Recipient must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Award Amount - $1000 possibly divided by multiple recipients

Kathryn Elizabeth Watson Over Scholarship

The Kathryn Elizabeth Watson Over Scholarship was established in memory of Kathryn Elizabeth Watson Over who passed away on September 18, 2011 as a result of a carbon monoxide accident. Her death, along with four other individuals, resulted in the state of Tennessee BWC5 Carbon Monoxide Law, requiring carbon monoxide awareness training throughout Tennessee.

The scholarship award amount varies and will be determined based on the value of the endowment and the Foundation’s spending plan.

This scholarship will be awarded each year to a graduating senior of Kenwood High School who meets the following criteria:

  • Recipient must be a freshman who recently graduated from Kenwood High School
  • Recipient must have a high school GPA of 2.75 and ACT mandated admission score
  • Recipient must be enrolled as a full-time (12 or more credit hours) Education major

This scholarship is only for incoming freshman and is not renewable.

Award Amount - $1500

Ken and Amy Landrum Scholarship of Excellence in Education

This scholarship was established by Ken and Amy Landrum. The scholarship is available to an incoming freshman with an overall ACT of at least 26. The student must be full-time majoring in Math Education or Science Education. Preference will go to Bedford, Montgomery and Stewart County residents. Merit and financial need may be considered. The student must maintain a 3.0 GPA, and they may reapply online annually.

Kendrick Rudolph Memorial Scholarship

Established by the family of Kendrick Rudolph, interest on this endowed scholarship provides an award to a graduate student at Austin Peay pursuing a master’s degree in education. Students must have a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in special education.

LaRue V. Pryor Music Scholarship

Scholarship will be given to a qualified student from Clarksville High School who plans to major in Choral Music and/or Music Education. Student must be full-time and retention is possible for up to five years provided a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA is maintained.

Award Amount - $5100 possibly divided by multiple recipients

Leah Elisabeth Special Education Scholarship

Contributions from an anonymous Austin Peay State University friend will provide a scholarship to a single parent who is majoring in special education in the College of Education. Recipient must have financial need, be a full-time junior or senior, and a top-of-the-line individual. This scholarship may be renewed two times if the student maintains at least a 3.2 GPA and is considered a full-time junior or senior.

Award Amount - $3000

Lynda Wilkerson Conner Education Scholarship for Student Teaching

The Lynda Wilkerson Conner Education Scholarship for Student Teaching is designed for students with a current GPA of 3.3 or above. The applicant must have completed and passed all Praxis tests prior to the scholarship application and have completed all coursework. Applicants must have a demonstrated financial need. This scholarship is available for College of Education students entering their practice teaching semester. It is available for one semester only and is not renewable.

Mary Florence Betts Endowed Scholarship

Established by long-time educator Mary Florence Betts, this endowment is designated to benefit a recipient majoring in Education from Stewart or Montgomery County, TN. Recipient may reapply annually for funding.

Award Amount - $2400 possibly divided by multiple recipients

Neil Ross Memorial Scholarship in Mathematics

This scholarship was established in memory of Neil Ross, former professor of mathematics at Austin Peay. The scholarship is open to math and math education majors. Awards are made for one year, but are renewable if recipient meets criteria and reapplies. A GPA of 3.0 and full-time status are required. Preference will be given to a student from Montgomery County, and selection will be made by a departmental committee.

This scholarship will be automatically renewed if you meet the renewal criteria. You must maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA, keep full-time status each semester.

Sally & L. M. Ellis Education Scholarship Endowment

The amount of the Sally & L.M. Ellis Education Scholarship Endowment varies.

Award Amount - $800 possibly divided by multiple recipients

Sarah Howser Darnell Scholarship

This scholarship endowment was established by Mrs. Sarah Howser Darnell that will fund a student majoring in history with a minor in education.

Criteria:

  • Student must be an enrolled History major with an Education minor
  • Student must be a rising junior, senior, or graduate level
  • Student must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA and enrolled full-time (12 or more credit hours)

Renewal:

  • In order for this scholarship to be considered for renewal, the student must continue to enroll full-time while maintaining at least a cumulative 3.0 GPA.

Award Amount - $1000 possibly divided by multiple recipients

TEAM Thompson Scott and Blount Counties Scholarship

The TEAM Thompson Scott and Blount Counties Scholarship is designed for an APSU student majoring in Special Education. The recipient must be a resident of Scott County or Blount County Tennessee.

The Donald B. Lambert Endowed Scholarship

Established in honor of Dr. Lambert, former professor of Education and College of Education Dean. Recipients must be full-time students and admitted to the teacher education program. Demonstrated need will be a consideration. Recipient may reapply.

Award Amount - $3400 possibly divided by multiple recipients

The Mabry Legacy Endowment Scholarship

This scholarship was established in honor of Drs. George and Sharon Mabry. It is to be awarded to full-time students with a Music Education major with a Vocal Emphasis or Music Performance with a Vocal Emphasis concentration. The recipient must have a 3.0 high school or APSU GPA.

The scholarship can be renewed for up to three years if the student reapplies, completes an essay yearly, maintains a 3.0 GPA, remains a full time student.

Award Amount - $1800 possibly divided by multiple recipients

William and Merle Pedigo Education Endowment

The Austin Peay State University Foundation founded this scholarship in 2013. It is the intention of the donors that this scholarship be used to assist a senior Education student who will be enrolled in the student teaching practicum during that academic year. If a student changes from the major prior to completion of that academic year, the remaining semester scholarship amount will be diverted to an Education major in the student teaching practicum.

To qualify, the recipient must be a full-time APSU student with a minimum 3.5 GPA and an ACT score of 26. Applicants must be eligible to enroll in the student teaching practicum program during the academic year.
