Madison Hobson

“Being a Governor means so much more to me than a mascot; it means that I have the power to bring change and be change.”
Major: English
Hometown: Nashville, Tennessee
Involvement: Alpha Delta Pi, Govs Ambassador, Govs R.O.W. Leader, Student Life and Engagement Intern

For Madison Hobson, it was important for her to be able to make a name for herself at the university she attended.

That’s why Austin Peay’s small class sizes and individualized attention attracted the Nashville native.

Madison, center, helped organize the Gov Color Run in August 2017.

“I came to Austin Peay for the smaller campus community,” Hobson said. “I wanted to be able to stand out more than I would have at a bigger school. Also, because it offered two big things that I wanted—affordability and a quality education.”

And stand out is exactly what she did. She has held elected positions as both the president of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority during the 2016-17 year and as a senator with the Student Government Association, and also as an intern in the APSU Admissions Office, where she was president of the Govs R.O.W. Team for two years.

These leadership positions have allowed her to change both current and future student’s lives at APSU. Specifically, as a Govs Ambassador she has helped prospective students gain the same appreciation for campus as she has.

After graduation, the senior English major will be pursuing a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration at Auburn University. She will also work as the graduate assistant for Auburn’s interfraternity council, bringing with her all the experiences and skills she learned from APSU to Alabama.

Keeping a positive outlook, not being afraid to say yes to opportunities and getting involved on campus is how Hobson has invested in Austin Peay. Because she liberally shares her time and talent, APSU has rewarded her by revealing her own path toward becoming a leader.

“Being a Governor means so much more to me than a mascot; it means that I have the power to bring change and be change,” Hobson said.

“I am one of thousands of leaders here at Austin Peay and I consider myself lucky to be among these brilliant, driven young people."
