Shrublands

Upland shrubland communities are infrequent on the landscape and most are limited to steep, rocky mountainous habitats where they may either form a nearly continuous cover or they may often form fringes around communities such as outcrops, balds, barrens, glades, prairies, and woodlands. Various types of described shrubland associations also occur on cliff communities that have substantial ledge development. Riparian and wetland shrublands are classified separately under Woody Wetlands
