Spring-Fed Swamp

Spring-fed swamp communities are the rarest of Tennessee's swamp types. Examples are definitely known at this time only from the Nashville Basin, Ridge and Valley, and northern Blue Ridge and are closely associated with spring-fed shrub swamp and herbaceous wetland communities as well. In these examples, groundwater is minerotrophic and originates from underground aquifers in carbonate bedrock. All of the known examples are relatively young swamp forests and no mature examples of this community are known to exist.
