Floodplain Swamps

Floodplain swamps are tree-dominated woody wetlands found in natural topographic depressions within river floodplains that are subject to seasonal and annual overbank flooding from the adjacent river. Canopies vary from closed to open. Water levels in floodplain swamps can vary from a few centimeters to a couple of meters. Water levels of some floodplain swamps tend to recede altogether in the driest months of the year.
