Seepage Prairie

Wet prairies are herbaceous palustrine communities. These communities are very rare today and occur as highly isolated occurrences. Historically, they were embedded in open prairie or oak savanna. Unlike other wet prairie types, seepage prairies are found on gentle hillslopes in rolling topography. Their deep soils are not associated with clay fragipans. Historically, they would have graded on their upslope side to mesic/dry prairie/savanna and downslope into wet prairie/meadow.
