The All State
The University student newspaper, The All State, is student
produced and edited by students, with the guidance of the student
publications advisor. The All State is a publication for the
expression of student opinion and a medium for dissemination of timely news
relevant to the campus community. The All State has been serving as
a student-run outlet for the dissemination of news and information of
interest to the campus community since 1930. The All State reaches
3,000 campus community members weekly in print, and many more online at
theallstate.com.
Applications
Applications for the editor in chief position and senior editor positions
are taken annually each spring. Applications for all other positions are
taken on a need-to-fill basis at the beginning of spring and fall semesters.
Beat reporter applications are being taken continuously. To find out what
positions are open and to apply for any position, please
print the application, fill out,
and return to the Department of Student Publications, Morgan University
Center, Room 115.
Deadline for editor in chief
applications is March 23 at noon to the Student Affairs office or the
Student Publications Office, Morgan University Center, Room 206 or 115.
News
Judges from USA Today named The All State among the top three
college newspapers at the 20th annual Southeast Journalism
Conference, Jan. 25-27 in Birmingham, Ala.
The All State earned third place in the best college newspaper
category, behind Auburn University and Mississippi State University. A
total of 27 college newspapers submitted work for consideration by the
judges in this category.
Also, five members of The All State staff were awarded honors
at the conference:
- Editor in Chief Mandy Rogers, Lebanon, first place in the on-site
newspaper page design competition.
- Senior Photographer Lois Jones, Clarksville, fifth place in the best
press photographer category.
- Sports Columnist Michael Young, Greenbrier, second place in the best
sports writer category.
- Perspectives Editor Kasey Henricks, Chattanooga, eighth place in the
best opinion-editorial writer category.
- Reporter A.J. Dugger, Memphis, 10th place in the best feature
writer category.
In addition, one of the editors attended a Scripps Howard Foundation Semester
in Washington Program in Washington, D.C. this summer on a scholarship.
