National Society for Leadership and Success
The National Society for Leadership and Success (NSLS) is sponsored by the Department of Leadership; Dr. Sue Evans serves as the faculty advisor and members of the office of Student Life and Engagement are heavily involved in the activities as well as the success of NSLS. It is the largest student organization at APSU. Our charter membership totals were 42% higher than the national average for chapters at comparable universities throughout the US.
Qualified students from all disciplines are invited to participate including all undergraduate and all graduate students in Leadership. Membership into NSLS requires leadership training and involvement in active leadership activities in addition to a one-time national membership fee. The Executive Board is made up of ten extremely active officers and leaders.
It is documented that campus involvement has a positive impact on retention as well as long-term connections with the university. Astin's Theory of Involvement recognizes the importance of a student's co-curricular involvement during their university careers. (https://studentdevelopmenttheory.weebly.com/astin.html)
Our goal is to build a strong community between the student members of NSLS and the LDSP faculty as well as the entire University community. We believe that the students' involvement will lead to a stronger investment with APSU both as a student and an alumnus as well as fostering leadership skills for their futures.
