Before serving as an adjunct professor at Austin Peay State University, Dr. Olja Baker (née Jojić) worked as an assistant professor at the University of East Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), where she taught undergraduate and graduate linguistic courses (semantics, pragmatics, morpho-syntax, translation, writing, English grammar, discourse analysis, corpus linguistics). In addition to her academic roles, Dr. Baker also engaged in specialized Serbian to English/English to Serbian translation (technical documents and scholarly papers), and worked as a community English trainer, delivering comprehensive English language training courses to Serbian learners seeking to improve their employability.
Dr. Olja Baker's research interests include pragmatics, cross-cultural pragmatics, discourse analysis, humor studies, im/politeness studies.
