CoAL Dean's Research Grants
For Faculty

The Dean has allocated funds to support the active scholarly and creative work of CoAL faculty. These grant awards (up to $2000) are intended for research travel and/or materials, and will be chosen by a committee of CoAL faculty.

Recepients of 2018 - 2019 Grants

Dr. Christopher BaileyDr. Christopher Bailey - Department of Theatre and Dance

Dr. Bailey will attend the 38th Annual Three-Day Intensive:An Introduction to Commercial Producing at the Commercial Theatre Institute (CTI) in New York, NY.

 

Dr. Soma BanerjeeDr. Soma Banerjee - Department of History and Philosophy

Dr. Banerjee will  conduct research in the specialized archives in Kolkata, India to complete the field research for his upcoming book The Making of Modern Physics in Colonial India.

 

Dr. Korre FosterDr. Korre Foster - Department of Music

Dr. Foster will attend "Choral Art: Conductors and Composers Residency" at the Banff Center for the Arts and Creativity in Banff, Canada. While there he will explore new methods of performance and composition for choral music.


Dr. Gregory HammondDr. Gregory Hammond - Department of History and Philosophy

Dr. Hammond will spend six weeks conducting archival research in Peru. The research is in support of a book project tentatively titled Women's Suffrage in Peru: Voting Rights as a Measure for Human Rights.

Dr. Kristen SienkiewiczDr. Kristen Sienkiewicz - Department of Music

Dr. Sienkiewicz will be performing and presenting a lecture at the 2019 International Horn Symposium in Ghent, Belgium.

 

Dr. Jane WesselDr. Jane Wessel - Department of Language and Literature

Dr. Wessel will be conducting research at the Garrick Club and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, England for an article on extra-illustration and the construction of celebrity in Eighteenth-Century England.

For Students

 Recepients of 2018 - 2019 Grants

Jordan Bennett - Department of Music
Jordan will be attending the 2019 International Horn Symposium in Ghent, Belgium, where he will attend master classes and compete in the Frizelle Orchestra Audition Contest.

Julia Damore - Department of Music
Julia will be attending "German for Singers" at Middlebury College in Vermont. The program is an immersive experience in which singers sign a language pledge to only speak German for 7 weeks. She will also perform in an opera at the end of the program.

Catelyn Dasilva - Department of Art + Design
Catelyn will be creating a series of artworks titled "State of Awareness" in which she explores the viewers preconcieved and romantic notions of cities, particularly Los Angeles and New York City. As part of the research for the series, Catelyn will travel to both Los Angeles and New York City.

Erin Dodd - Department of Communication
Erin will be attending and presenting at the Popular Culture Association's 2019 Annual Meeting. The paper that she will be presenting is titled "Words We Use: The Slang of Today's College Students"

Rei Miller - Department of Art + Design
Rei will be creating a series of art works utilizing printmaking, photography, and video to address racial identity and prejudice.

Noah Perkins - Department of Music
Noah will be attending the American Choral Directors Association national conference in Kansas City, Missouri. 

Jane Seage - Department of Languages and Literature
Jane will be travelling to Romania to participate in archeological research. First, she will attend a workshop on ground penetrating radar and then she will participate in the excavation of a Roman villa.
