Generic Student Position Descriptions
Pay Level 1
This is an entry-level student position under the direct supervision of an APSU faculty or staff member.
Duties and Responsibilities
Typical tasks include but are not limited to:
- Deliver internal mail.
- Answer the telephone and direct inquiries to the appropriate individual if available.
- Assist with the creation of posting materials.
- Assist office staff with making copies, faxing, filing, and entering data.
- Receive guests and schedule appointments.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
- Ability to effectively utilize computer technology.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community, and the public.
- Attendance and punctuality are essential to this position.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Must be an APSU student enrolled at least ½ time.
- Minimum 1.8 overall combined GPA.
- Direct deposit of pay is required.
- A background check may be required of the successful applicant.
Pay Rate: $7.25 to $9.43/hour
Pay Level 2
This is an intermediate-level student position requiring advanced training that a student may have acquired either while working in an entry-level student position on in a more complex non-student capacity. This position works under limited supervision of an APSU faculty or staff member.
Duties and Responsibilities
Typical tasks include but are not limited to:
- Use software that requires programming skills or text/graphic manipulation for design purposes.
- Supervise other student assistants.
- Make presentations to groups or respond to questions.
- Perform peer mentoring.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

- Ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community, and the public.

Pay Rate: $9.12 to $10.56/hour
Pay Level 3
This is an advanced-level student position requiring possession of special skills that may have been acquired through experience, coursework, or both. This position works under little or no direct supervision of an APSU faculty or staff member.
Duties and Responsibilities
Typical tasks include but are not limited to:
- Perform duties of Computer Technician.
- Perform duties of Laboratory Assistant.
- Perform duties of Fitness Instructor
- Perform duties of Building Supervisor
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

- Ability to use sound judgment in decision-making.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Pay Level 4
Special skills student assistants are paid on the basis of work accomplished. This pay classification exists to compensate students that possess a skill that is in high demand.

- Write articles or other original works.
- Implement application of technology.
- Program special events.
- Supervise and direct others.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

- Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community and the public.
- Ability to coordinate and direct the activity of others

- Ability to formulate and execute complex tasks.
- Ability to maintain excellent organizational skills and detailed organization
