Program Review
The primary purpose of Program Review is the improvement of educational programs at
Austin Peay State University. The outcomes of program reviews set priorities for strategic
planning, budget allocations and determining the amount of performance funding dollars
awarded by the state through the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC). An
effective program includes an intensive self-study conducted by each program's faculty,
a critical assessment by peer evaluators both outside the state and within the institution
itself, and an action plan in response to this critical assessment.
All academic programs must either seek accreditation from an approved accrediting
body or participate in APSU’s program review process. Eligible programs undergo review
in each five-year THEC Quality Assurance Funding (QAF) cycle, which is approximately
every four to six years. The schedule for reviews is determined at the start of each
QAF cycle in collaboration with the THEC.
The review process is a collaborative effort of the Senior Vice Provost and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment, the academic unit under review, and the respective college.
