2019 APSU Teaching Mathematics Conference

Welcome to the conference webpage!  This conference will be an opportunity for APSU alumni to share their knowledge and expertise in teaching mathematics in K-12 classrooms with current APSU students who are pre-service teachers.

The conference will be held on Saturday, October 26th, 2019 in the Maynard Mathematics and Computer Science Building from 8:30am - 3:30pm.

Alumni: Reconnect with your classmates and make new friendships with current preservice teachers who might be in your schools soon!

Each 50 minute session throughout the day will be led by APSU alumni with an audience of pre-service teachers.  The presentations will focus on teaching mathematics in K-5 classrooms and 6-12 classrooms. 

What might you share with the pre-service teachers?

We are looking for alumni to give presentations about the teaching of mathematics that are active, hands-on, and engaging to the audience of pre-service teachers.  What do you wish you had known before you taught mathematics in your own classroom? Do you have a really great unit or lesson that builds conceptual understanding of mathematics or strengthens reasoning skills?  Have you used manipulatives or technology to teach mathematics in a creative and engaging way?  Do you have activities or games to share that help K-12 students build fluency?

The presentations should stay focused on teaching mathematics and not be centered on classroom management or other topics.  (We will have a 30 minute open Question and Answer session at the end of the day where pre-service teachers can ask volunteer alumni anything they like.) Alumni can present individually or with a group (up to four total presenters).

 What is the cost to attend?

Alumni can attend the conference as a presenter or as attendee.  The cost to attend the conference is $10.00.  Alumni who give a presentation will have the registration fee waived.  Regardless of your status as attendee or presenter, everyone should register below so that we know how many people will attend the conference.

Interested in Attending and/or Presenting?

Please submit a Registration Form by October 12th.  If you would like to present, your speaker proposal (included within the registration form) should be submitted by September 14th EXTENDED.  Proposals will be selected and speakers notified by September 28th.  If your proposal isn't accepted, we hope you will still attend the conference.  Feel free to contact any of the conference organizers below if you have questions:
