Frequently Asked Questions about the Military Student Center
1. Do I have to be Military Affiliated to use the Military Student Center (MSC)?
No. The MSC, it's programs and events, are open to all students regardless of military affiliation. Please, come visit our center, attend events, and utilize the programs the MSC offers.
2. What is the Texts for Vets(TFV) Program?
The Texts-For-Vets program was established by the MSC to help APSU students overcome the financial burden of purchasing textbooks. Our textbooks are available only because of donations made by APSU students, faculty, staff, and community members alike. Everything we offer is free of charge, and on a first-come-first-served basis. All we ask of you is that the resources we loan out are treated well and returned to the Woodward Library on the due date.
3. How Does the TFV Program work?
The TFV works like a library. First, check our webpage at www.apsu.edu/msc/texts-for-vets/texts-for-vets-info.php for a list of the books we have available. Next, read the requirements necessary for TFV. Remember, you must fill out one application per text book requested. Once approved, we will call you when your texts are ready for pick up. You will need your student identification to receive your text book(s). 4. What if the book I need is not on the online book list?
The TFV program is completely dependent upon donations, and for that reason we do not have every book the school requires on hand. Unfortunately, we just do not get the donations we need for every book. If we do not have the book required for a specific class, you may have to purchase it conveniently at the APSU Bookstore at the following link: apsu.bncollege.com/shop/apsu/home
5. Can the MSC help me with my GI Bill?
Our staff may be able to assist you with some questions regarding your GI Bill/VA benefit, however, the MSC does not process GI Bill/VA benefits. The Office of Student Financial Aid and Veterans Education Benefits on main campus would be better suited to assist you with any question regarding GI Bill/VA benefits. They are located in the Ellington Building, room 202. 6. Where is the MSC located?
The MSC is located at the new William E. and Sadako S. Newton Military Family Resource Center (the Newton Center) at 426 College Street. The Newton Center sits between Johnny’s Big Burgers and the Barnes and Noble College Bookstore.
7. Are MSC events open to all students?
Yes, all events, barring the Military and Veteran Graduate Recognition Ceremony, the MSC host are open to all students regardless of military affiliation, and most events are catered.
8. Can the MSC help with calculators/technology required for my courses?
Unfortunately, we no long assist with calculators/technologies. The MSC has transferred our calculators and clickers program to our friends over at the Wilbur N. Daniel African American Cultural Center (WNDACC). The WNDACC reserves the donated calculators for military affiliated students on a first come first serve basis, but will loan to all students if any remain. 9. Can the MSC help me with my Resume?
Our staff can glance over your resume, ensure you’re utilizing the proper verbiage, and give our unprofessional opinions. At the Newton Center, we do occasionally have professionals stop by to conduct a class on how to convert your military training and time into its civilian counterpart. However, APSU has the Office of Career Services which assist students full-time with resume writing, and much more. 10. When do my classes get dropped? (IMPORTANT DATES)
When a student’s classes get dropped is dependent upon the semester they applied. For more information check out the Student Account Services page at apsu.edu/student-account-services/. There you can select your current term to see all the important dates related to when classes are dropped, the fee-adjustment calendar, and more.
11. How do I confirm classes?
Confirmation of your classes is the last step to making your schedule. It is a necessity to prevent your classes from being dropped. Step One is to log in to your OneStop account and choose “Web Self Service”. Choose “Student Account” from the listing then “Confirm & Pay or Enroll in a Payment Plan”. Choose the term you wish to confirm than click Submit. For all of the steps required for confirming your classes please refer to the checklist at apsu.edu/registrar/resources/confirm.php.
12. Does the MSC offer tutoring services?
While the MSC has a number of experienced students in its employment, that may assist you with some aspects of a course that they have personally taken, it would be advantageous for you to visit the Academic Support Center in Marks 124.
