I-O Psychology at APSU
I received my PhD in Experimental Psychology with a concentration in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from The University of Memphis. I primarily enjoy teaching students in the fully online MSIO program, although I also enjoy teaching “on ground” and undergraduate students. In addition to teaching, I have served on various applied projects related to higher education, highway safety, healthcare, local business, and the U.S. Navy, and was previously affiliated with the Center for Research on Women at The University of Memphis.
My research and professional interests include work-life interaction (particularly in academia), graduate training and pedagogy in the psychological discipline, faculty development, and quality of (work) life. She promotes the use of empirical research to empower folx to make informed decisions about their work life, well-being, health, and safety.
More candidly, I love finding unique ways to apply my I-O training to my varied research and professional interests. Below are research and service projects that demonstrate this endeavor.
Teaching
I currently teach:
- Personnel Psychology (PSYC 5580)
- Personnel Assessment & Selection (PSYC 5520)
- Performance Management (PSYC 5510)
- Occupational Health Psychology (PSYC 6030)
- Internship in I-O Psychology (PSYC 5730)
- Thesis in I-O Psychology (PSYC 5990)
- When possible, I also teach Psychology Applied to Work (PSYC 4500, an intro to I-O Psychology) and accept undergraduate students interested in I-O relevant research and internships.
Recent Research
Current projects:
- Selection decisions of the wrongfully convicted (intradisciplinary research with Dr. Pica)
- Health (psychological and physical) and academic success of vulnerable student populations (interdisciplinary research with Drs. Bliss and Gomez in Health and Human Performance)
- Creating an anti-racist and anti-oppressive field of I-O psychology (working with national and international groups of I-O students, academics, and practitioners)

Service
Current projects:
- DEI in I-O Psyc: To envision the future of the field of I-O psychology without a stronger emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion would not only be out of touch with what is needed in today’s organizations, but also out of touch with what is happening in our society right now. I realize that some may interpret such a vision as an attempt to steer the field into a political agenda. However, adequately representing the full-range of humans for whom we, as a discipline, work to support with science is simply best practice. To better shape the field of I-O psychology, we must also focus on DEI in the recruitment and retention of individuals into the pipeline, namely graduate training. To be clear, I promote DEI in the broadest sense—certainly in terms of racial/ethnic, gender identity, and sexual orientation, but also for greater levels of I-O program stakeholders (e.g., faculty, including adjunct/support faculty; students; and alumni), program types (e.g., Master’s level, non-traditional, including online and hybrid; international; and I-O adjacent programs), and our practitioners in the field.
- Professional Development/Coaching:
- For graduate students: I'm currently working to develop content/programming for a graduate student series as a member of APSU's Graduate Academic Council subcommittee on the issue.
- For faculty, including pre-tenure and support faculty: I'm currently an invited speaker for APSU's First Year Faculty program and AP Academy for adjunct, part-time, and temporary faculty. I am also currently piloting a mid-tenure track faculty development program.
Additional Active Service Roles:
- Lead Facilitator, SIOP I-O Program Directors workgroup.
- I lead the bi-weekly meetings for this workgroup of nearly 100 Master’s- and doctoral-level I-O program directors. This group serves as a network for IOPDs to discuss and workshop current issues pertinent to the education and training of I-O graduate students.
- Taskforce lead, Online Graduate Training subcommittee of SIOP’s Education and Training standing committee
- I coordinate and lead meetings and any work product that results from our taskforce (e.g., survey development, data analysis, and presentations of our work
- Member, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Taskforce of APSU's Psychological Science
& Counseling Department
- I help to develop and promote a stronger presence of DEI awareness and activity within our department.
- Member, APSU's Pedagogy of Care Interdisciplinary Taskforce
- I help to promote awareness and understanding of the various forms of "trauma" in today's classrooms and the foundations of care-based pedagogy. I also encourage and train instructors to adopt a pedagogy of care.
- Member, Survey Policy and Oversight Committee, APSU Standing Committee
- I use my I-O training in psychometrics and applied measurement to facilitate better institutional/organizational surveys and data collection.
