Austin Peay Peer Leaders
Our Peer Leaders
APSU 1000 and PASS 0900 Peer Leaders are upperclassmen student leaders who provide an immediate support network to first-year students. Peer leaders will help first-year students adjust to the University, develop a better understanding of campus resources and skills essential for academic success.
The Course Registration Assistant (CRA) works under the direct supervision of a Student
Success Coordinator for special events and activities associated with or under the
direction of Freshman Retention & Advising. The CRA is responsible for facilitating
the pre-registration course selection process for students with declared majors in
CoBHS, CoAL, CoSTEM, and Academic Focus Pathways. They provide course registration
advice and assistance to students in selection and registration for their courses
in their defined degree path.
Peer Tutors are employed by the Academic Support Center to support a variety of programs across campus. These programs include: the Writing Center, Full Spectrum Learning (for students on the autism spectrum), TRIO Student Support Services, Athletics, Veterans Upward Bound, and tutoring in the Academic Support Center. Peer tutors earn lifetime certification through the College Reading and Learning Association while they provide valuable service to their fellow students.
SLA Leaders are employed by the Academic Support Center to work with students in supported sections. The SLA Leaders work closely with faculty, creating lesson plans and instructing workshops that are paired to the supported course. Previous SLA Leaders have indicated that the leadership and communication skills they learned through these positions provided life-changing benefits to them. SLA Leaders earn certification for their skills while they support their fellow students through a program that has helped make APSU a leader in education.
The Registration Orientation Welcome (R.O.W.) Team Member position for the GOVS R.O.W. programs is an APSU student who works with university staff and faculty to assist new students when they enroll in the University and while they participate in orientation activities.
R.O.W. Team Members guide new students and serve as a resource for freshmen and transfer students who are learning what the campus has to offer them both personally and academically.
GOVS Ambassadors is a program that allows students to work as examples for students at Austin Peay. Each of the Govs Ambassadors help represent Austin Peay State University at events such as AP Days and other special event, including giving tours for incoming students and families.
