Our Lab

Although we are a small laboratory, we are well equipped with the latest in field and laboratory equipment.

Our field equipment consists of numerous Hagloff increment bores of various sizes, field and diameter tapes of varying lengths, Brunton pocket transits, Trimble Nomad, GeoXM handheld, Garmin GPSMap and Rino GPS units, laser range finder hypsometer, Stihl 460 chainsaw with 28" bar and full compliment of safety equipment.

We are fortunate to be a research unit within the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Austin Peay. The McCord building is among the most well furnished academic buildings on campus and provides us with access to numerous excellent facilities. The B.E.T.R. Lab has access to a dedicated sanding and prep room. Our lab uses a Makita 4x24 belt sander with sand paper grits ranging from 50 to 400, a Grizzly Woodworking band saw, and Craftsman mitre saw.

The lab is also equipped with a WinDendro system, CooRecorder, CDendro, and Velmex measuring station with dedicated Meiji trinocular scope. Within the department we have access to numerous stereo-zoom scopes, scanning electron microscope, ground penetrating radar, surveying equipment, camping equipment, and a computing facility with a full suite of computer software such as R, Google Earth Engine, ESRI ArcGIS Pro, Adobe and Microsoft Suites.
