Photojournalism

Who We Are and What We Do

The visual journalism project “Eyes on Clarksville,” carried out by the APSU photojournalism team, is a student media initiative that aims to document local events about the city of Clarksville in press photography.

Under this initiative, the APSU photojournalism team currently consists of three members. Two communication major students, Daniela Thomas and Hugh Wheeler, and their faculty advisor, Assistant Professor  Xu “James” Zhang.

The team started their project in May 2024 by covering the opening of the Clarksville Downtown Market, a major local community event promoting local farmers, small businesses, artists, and other sustainable practices.

Since then, the team has also covered other local events, including the Summer Concert Series, Mayor’s Summer Night Lights, Farm to Table Dinner, Magic in the Park, etc.

In late October 2024, the APSU photojournalism team started a partnership with the local online news outlet ClarksvilleNOW. So far, the team has contributed their photos to the outlet’s coverage of two local community events: Fright on Franklin and Sci-fi & Fantasy Expo.

With a camera, flashlight, notepad, and digital recorder in their hands, the APSU photojournalism team intends to show and tell the most riveting stories of different local communities inside the city of Clarksville.
