“When people ask me about Austin Peay, I tell them the truth: I love this campus and it’s the best choice I could have ever made.”
Major: Health and Human Performance
Hometown: Gallatin, Tennessee

Jenny Hernandez had options when choosing a four-year college to transfer to after completing her associate degree, but it was Austin Peay that offered her the “perfect” combination of academics, location and community.
“I visited different campuses after I completed my associate degree, but Austin Peay was perfect — it felt like home,” Hernandez said.
“The campus wasn’t too big, but it wasn’t too small, the people were inviting and it was the right distance from my hometown of Gallatin, Tennessee.”

Since enrolling, Hernandez wasted no time becoming a part of the Austin Peay community, working as a resident assistant in Govs Terrace South, serving as a Govs Ambassador, giving guided tours of campus to prospective students, and joining the Alpha Delta Pi social sorority.
“I’ve taken to the mentality of saying ‘why not’ when I see opportunities to be involved on campus because I want to make the most out of my time at Austin Peay,” Hernandez said. “When I give tours of campus and people ask me about Austin Peay, I tell them the truth: I love this campus and it’s the best choice I could have ever made.”
