Nicholas Lee visited other universities before enrolling, but the Clarksville native said he chose Austin Peay because he saw the opportunity to become closer to the ideal version of himself at a school only minutes from home.

The Languages and Literature Department is housed in the university's Harned Building.

“I’m generally a passive and agreeable person, but I know that I’m not going to grow if I don’t put myself in situations where I can say I’m not comfortable and that’s alright,” Lee said. “(At Austin Peay) I saw opportunities to do things I wouldn’t normally do that would make me uncomfortable and that has grown my confidence in a lot of ways.”

Lee is involved in a number of organizations on campus, including Govs Programming Council, Kappa Sigma social fraternity and is a member of Austin Peay’s Honors Program.

In Spring 2017, Lee was a part of a service-learning study abroad group of students who traveled to Trinidad and Tobago. While there, Lee, a film studies minor, used his talents to document Austin Peay students’ efforts to rebuild housing for locals.

“Since I’ve been at Austin Peay, I’ve thought a lot about how I can make myself better and about what kind of person I want to be in 10 years,” Lee said. “It’s not about what things I have, but what person do I want to be?

"At Austin Peay, I’ve learned to be more open to the opportunities life gives you and to just see what happens.”
