2025 Austin Peay Honor Band
& Orchestra Festival
February 20-22, 2025
We are delighted to announce the 2025 installment of our annual Honor Festival for both band and orchestra students. Like last year, our festival will feature a 10-12 band, a 7-9 band and a 7-12 string orchestra. This year’s clinicians are Ron Ellis (Director of Bands at University of Texas at San Antonio), Tara Melvin (Director of Bands at Awtrey Middle School) and David Eccles (Orchestra Director at The Lovett School). This year’s event will feature guest composer, Katahj Copley (Owner/Composer at Katahj Copley Music), who will be working with both student performers and directors/teachers during the festival.
September – Applications open
Sunday, November 17 – Deadline for applications
Friday, December 13 – Notification of acceptances
Sunday, February 9 – Deadline to finalize registration
Thursday, February 20 – 2025 Austin Peay Honor Band & Orchestra Festival begins
Seating auditions for Strings and 10-12 Band will be held on Thursday, February 20 from 5-7pm (7-9 Band will be seated according to the Director recommendation). Ensemble rehearsals will continue through 9:30pm that day. Friday’s rehearsals will take place from 9am until 9pm with a special afternoon concert featuring both the APSU Symphony Orchestra and the APSU Wind Ensemble. Saturday activities will start at 9am, and the three closing concerts will begin at 1pm with the final concert concluding at 4pm.
An application for our event must be initiated by the student. Your director or private teacher must be indicated and will be contacted to complete your application. If you are notified of selection, you will have until February 2 to complete your registration, including the $45 nonrefundable registration fee, which does include two meals on Friday.

All applications must be received by 11:59pm on Sunday, November 17.
As explained in the section above, applications will be initiated by the individual student. As part of that application, they will provide contact information for a director or private teacher, who must complete the brief recommendation in order for the student to be considered. Recommendations forms will be sent to directors/teachers after the closing of applications by November 21, and will be due by December 1.
