William E & Sadako S. Newton Military Family Resource Center
The Austin Peay State University William E. & Sadako S. Newton Military Family Resource Center – the state’s largest military student center – is open year-round. The 5,200-square-foot building at 426 College St., next to Johnny’s Big Burger, provides the University’s military-affiliated students (military/veteran family members, active-duty military, veterans, reservists, National Guard members, and ROTC cadets.) with a one-stop shop for most of their social, financial and academic needs. The facility houses the Military & Veterans Affairs division senior leadership, a VetSuccess on Campus Counselor, a Military-Affiliated Career Specialist, a Military-Affiliated Student Success Professional, and a Veterans Upward Bound Academic Coordinator.
The Newton Military Family Resource Center (NMFRC) offers programs throughout the academic year to address the unique challenges our Military-Affiliated Student (MAS) population faces. NMFRC features:
- A computer lab with online access, a printer, and CAC readers
- A dining area to eat, study, or talk with your peers
- A lounge to unwind and relax
- Events include educational, informational, and family-oriented programming throughout the year
- Programs throughout the academic year that address the unique challenges facing our student population
- Student-Peer Coaching – staff provides guidance and advice on how to navigate college and transition from military to college life and beyond
- Tech for MAS loan program-graphic calculators (TI-84 Plus) are available to APSU Military-Affiliated students- MAS only free of charge on a first-come; first serve basis for the semester.
- Text for Vets loan program- relies on student textbook donations to loan textbooks for fellow APSU students, free of charge on a first-come, first serve basis for the semester.
- Tutoring one-to-one through the Center for Academic Support & Enrichment, which provides services for a variety of undergraduate courses.
It is a one-stop shop, servicing APSU military-affiliated students (MAS). The Newton Center is open to all APSU students, no military affiliated required.
We are available every week day that the school is open to assist students. Please come in and visit us!
