This scholarship was created in honor of Heidi Leming, former Student Life and Leadership director. Heidi was instrumental in applying for a diversity access grant. She secured $13,000 to start a peer mentor program for Hispanic Students on campus and several other programs to bring greater awareness to Hispanic issues.
This scholarship is awarded to any undergraduate (sophomore to senior) APSU student with a 2.5 cumulative GPA and actively participated in Latino Community Resource Center Program Events (attended at least five programs).
National Scholarship Opportunities
Hispanic Scholarship Fund
Eligibility: Must be of Hispanic Heritage. Minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale for High School Students.
College and graduate students require a minimum of 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Plan to
enroll full-time during the fall semester. Must be a U.S. Citizen, permanent legal
resident, DACA or Eligible Non-Citizen (as defined by FAFSA). Complete the FAFSA application.

Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship
Amount: $9,000
Eligibility: Currently a full-time or part-time upper-division undergraduate or graduate student
in public administration, governmental accounting, finance, political science, economics,
or business administration. Belong to one of the following groups: Black or African
American, American Indian or Alaskan Native, Asian, Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander,
Hispanic or Latino. Must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or
Canada.
Process: Go to the Government Finance Officers Association website and click on the Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship link. Follow the instructions
on the application.

In 1993, the GFOA's executive board voted to create the Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship to recognize and encourage outstanding minority students enrolled in a study course preparing for a state or local government finance career. The Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship competition is for minority students of public administration, (governmental) accounting, finance, political science, economics, or business administration (specifically focusing on government or nonprofit management) at the upper-division undergraduate or graduate level. One scholarship of $9,000 is available for award in 2017. Tyler Technologies fund the Minorities Scholarship.
