Non-Degree Seeking Students

Students who want to take classes for reasons other than seeking a graduate degree may be allowed to enroll in graduate studies at Austin Peay State University.

The non-degree seeking application option is meant for students who:

All graduate courses are not available to students in the non-degree seeking status. Please consult the graduate coordinator of the department in which you plan to take courses.

As a non-degree seeking student, if you wish to remain at Austin Peay you will be required to submit a readmit   application for admission  for each semester you intend to enroll.

If approved by the graduate program, only 9 semester hours completed as a non-degree seeking student may be transferred into the graduate program at APSU.   Acceptance as a non-degree seeking graduate student does not guarantee admission to the graduate program at APSU.

International students wishing to apply should consult the international student requirements before moving forward with the admissions process.

Non-Degree Seeking

This status may be granted to applicants who desire to enroll in graduate studies for reasons other than to seek a degree. Some graduate programs will not apply credits earned as a non-degree seeking student.

Applicants must provide the following admission requirements:

Postgraduate Status

This status may be granted to students to have earned a master’s degree or greater but do not wish to seek another graduate degree or post-master’s certificate at APSU. Applicants are permitted to take an unlimited number of graduate credits under this status.

Transient Status

This status may be granted to applicants currently enrolled in a graduate program at another college or university who wish to take courses at APSU for transfer credit.  

Applicants must provide the following admission requirements:

To apply as a transient student, applicants should select the Graduate-Transient 1 Semester application type in the online application.

Undergraduates Taking Graduate Credits

Senior I Status

This status is for APSU students only, who are within 9 credit-hours of graduating with a bachelor’s degree and wish to begin taking graduate level courses. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and satisfactory scores on the entrance exam as prescribed by the intended graduate program. Graduate credits may not be applied to the bachelor’s degree.   Senior I students may be eligible to hold a graduate assistantship. Student should check with his/her student financial representative to understand how this classification may affect financial aid eligibility

Senior I status applicants must provide the following admission requirements:

To apply as a Senior I student, applicants should select the Graduate-Special/Non Degree online application type.   Please specify Senior I status, as requested, on the Additional Information page of the application.

Senior I Selective Admission for Psychology

Selective Admission status may be granted to senior undergraduate psychology students who have earned 24 credit hours of undergraduate psychology courses.   Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and GRE score of 350 on both verbal and quantitative (this is equivalent to a 138 for quantitative and 143 for verbal on the new version).   Applicants may be able to take graduate psychology courses and apply credits toward his or her undergraduate degree.   These credits cannot be applied toward a graduate degree.

Senior II

This status is for APSU students only, who are within 21 hours of completion of a bachelor’s degree and wish to take graduate level courses.   Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.   Senior II students may register for one graduate course per semester.   Graduate credits may not be applied to the bachelor’s degree.   Senior II students are not eligible to hold graduate assistantships.   Student should check with his/her student financial representative to understand how this classification may affect financial aid eligibility.

Non-degree seeking students who wish to remain at Austin Peay State University are required to submit a readmit application for admission and official transcripts for each academic year.
