An Ohio native, Alexis Larkin knew she wanted to leave her home state for college.

She didn’t know where until a trip to Austin Peay State University sold her that being a Gov could help her reach her personal and academic goals.

“I wasn’t in love with the idea of staying in Ohio for college, so I looked at some schools in Kentucky and Tennessee the summer before my senior year,” Larkin said. “When I visited Austin Peay with my mother, the second we got onto campus, she said she knew this was where I was going to enroll.

"No other school offered a combination of education and campus community like Austin Peay.”

Larkin has been involved in a number of campus organizations at Austin Peay, including serving as a Govs R.O.W. leader, assisting new students when they enroll in the University, as well as a Govs Ambassador and tour leader, helping prospective students gain the same appreciation for campus as she did as a high school student.

She is also a residence assistant in the on-campus dorms and is involved in a number of Greek organizations, including the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and Gamma Sigma Alpha and Omicron Delta Kappa national honor societies.

For Larkin, the seven-hour trip to Clarksville, Tennessee from her Columbus, Ohio suburb home for college has proven to be the best decision she could have made.

“I’ve made my way here at Austin Peay and I’m so comfortable with my life in Clarksville,” Larkin said. “Because I made the decision to come to Austin Peay, I have so many friends from places I’d never heard of back in Ohio, and I’ve been exposed to so many cultures and different ways of life that I wouldn’t have if I had chosen to stay home for school.

“Making the decision to go away for school can be difficult because you have to be comfortable being on your own, but it has been so worth it for me.”
