Tennessee Dual Enrollment Grant

  • The maximum amount available to students per academic year is $1,800, which can assist with the cost of three (3) courses per semester or nine (9) over the course of the academic year (Fall, Spring, Summer). Students can use funding from the DEG for up to 10 courses over their high school career.
  • With the abundance of dual enrollment options in Tennessee high schools, every student's grant award can be used differently! Planning is crucial to ensure no unexpected tuition bills. Please contact our office if you would like to talk through your dual enrollment plans and let us help you determine what to expect your out-of-pocket expenses to be.
    • Dual Enrollment is a tremendous savings on college tuition -- with or without the DEG!
  • The following examples assume courses are three credit hours at the dual enrollment tuition rate of $166 per credit hour.

  • In order for a student to receive funding for more than one course in any semester, they must:
    • For homeschool students, that requirement is a minimum ACT composite score of 21 (SAT of 1060).
    • For most other students, the requirement is a minimum ACT composite score of 21 or a GPA of at least 3.0. Please verify with our office.
  • Applying to APSU's dual enrollment program does not mean you will automatically receive grant funding!
  • The Dual Enrollment Grant is awarded by the state of Tennessee and is managed by the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (TSAC). You must visit the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation's website to create an account and apply to receive grant funding.
  • You will create a user account the first time you apply. Save this account and login information as you will use it for all future TSAC applications, including the HOPE Scholarship.
    • Accuracy is critical when completing your application.
    • Contact the TSAC Call Center at 800-342-1663 if you have technical questions about your TSAC account.
  • TSAC deadlines are firm - no exceptions.
      • We recommend submitting your application for the academic year by the fall deadline, then checking your TSAC student portal each semester.
      • There is no penality for submitting the application and not taking a class-- better safe than sorry!
  • Students must maintain a college GPA of 2.75  to continue receiving the dual enrollment grant.
  • Multiple Institutions: If you are taking courses at two or more institutions in the same semester, you may receive grant funding for those courses with a consortium agreement. Please contact our office to initiate a consortium agreement.
  • If you need to change the home school on your DEG application, log in to the Student Portal and look for the TRANSFER SCHOOL BUTTON next to the semester for your application.
  • DEG funding received for classes beyond the fourth class will reduce the student's HOPE scholarship on a dollar-for-dollar basis during his/her freshman year. When applying for the grant, the student completes an Additional Course Acknowledgment form, stating their understanding of how this additional course funding works. Keep in mind the dual enrollment tuition rate is about 50% of standard tuition and fees, so you are still saving!
  • Click here for an online tutorial explaining how to complete the Dual Enrollment Grant Application through the TSAC Student portal.
  • APSU verifies and processes grant applications after all students are registered for class  (usually around the 14th day of class). Additionally, if you are a consortium student, we will not award your account until a consortium agreement is on file.
  • Students may print a confirmation of the online grant application for their records, but they do not receive any further official notification. If the student is eligible, has submitted the online application, and is admitted and registers for class, she/he will receive the grant.
  • With the abundance of dual enrollment options in Tennessee public schools, every student's grant can be used differently! Planning is crucial to ensure no unexpected tuition bills!
