Student Organizations
The Asian Studies Club is a body of students who are interested in learning and celebrating Asian culture. We host discussions about current events in Asia and participate in various activities such as the Nashville Cherry Blossom Festival. The club is based off the Asian Studies minor at APSU but every student is welcome to join!
History Club is an active student organization, open to all majors, and requires no membership dues. We offer free events to students and their family/friends. Our trivia nights are an Austin Peay tradition!
APSU India Club endeavors to increase awareness and understanding of the culture of India while celebrating cultural diversity on Austin Peay’s campus. The APSU India Club serves to provide a welcoming community for all those interested in learning about India’s culture as well as a supportive environment for students of all backgrounds. India Club also aims to collaborate with the student clubs located in the Department of History & Philosophy--Phi Alpha Theta, the History Club and the Asian Studies Club with the intent of increasing the visibility of India’s cultural traditions along with making Austin Peay a center of excellence for researching and the teaching of the history of India. Finally, the organization also aims to increase Austin Peay State University’s Indian student population by various outreach/extension and recruitment activities regionally, nationally and internationally.
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to reach out to the current India Club president Madeline Thompson or the faculty advisor Dr. Soma Banerjee.
Theta Delta is APSU's local chapter of Phi Alpha Theta (the National History Honors Society). Theta Delta has been recognized each of the last four years as the top chapter in the nation, and has been recognized along with the History Club as amongst the best student organizations on campus.
The APSU Philosophy Club meets regularly for discussions of timely and perennial philosophical questions. The group periodically organizes and hosts other events such as field trips, movie nights, and campus-wide debates or forums between invited speakers on hot-button topics. The club is run by student leaders who work in consultation with the Philosophy and Religion professors. The club is a good opportunity to take a leadership role or just to get together and socialize and philosophize with other students.

Internships and Real Life Experience
APSU encourages students to seek out internship opportunities in their fields, and the Department of History & Philosophy is no exception. Thanks to our special relationship with the Pratt Museum on Fort Campbell, students have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in museum sciences.
Students can also get hands-on experience by contributing to the Veterans' Oral History Project. Working with Dr. Greg Zieren, students over the past decade have conducted hundred of interviews
Travel and Study Abroad
Whether as part of the Asian Studies program, one of Dr. Dewey Browder's summer tours through Europe to explore the history of the Holocaust, or new programs like the one spearheaded by Dr. Greg Hammond in Latin American history, students have the opportunity to not only read about but see the world.
Teacher Training and Preparation
Thanks to the tireless efforts of Dr. Michelle Butts, the department can offer history students looking to become teachers all the help they'll need to finish their degree on time. And future teachers in other concentrations will find required courses like Modern World History and Early World History offered online and during the summer in addition to in the classroom during the fall and spring semesters.
