Message from the President

Dear APSU Community,

The 2020-2021 academic year has been one of the most difficult years we have faced as a University. In light of these unprecedented times, I am pleased to inform you that the 2021-22 General Appropriations Act passed by both chambers of the 112 General Assembly includes a proposed budget for FY22 of a 4% salary pool to be distributed at the discretion of the University. Austin Peay remains committed to recognizing and rewarding excellent performance and fostering a positive campus environment. Everyone has worked exceptionally hard during this time for the success of the University, and I hope you know that your hard work does not go unnoticed or unappreciated.

Upon the recommendation of the Salary Allocation Committee and in support of the University’s Strategic Plan Goal Priority 3.1 – Enhance Compensation Planning for Quality, Growth, and Longevity, I have approved the following distribution plan for the FY22 salary pool:

  1. One-time bonus for January 2021 to June 30, 2021. A flat rate of $625 per employee to be paid by June 30, 2021.
  2. July 2021 salary increase. A 3% performance-based increase or $2,300, whichever is greater.

With limited exceptions as explained below, employees who were on the payroll on December 31, 2020, and remain on the payroll as an active employee as of June 30, 2021, will receive the bonus and salary increase. Exceptions include:

  • Employees who are currently on a Performance Improvement Plan or who have received disciplinary action during the current evaluation cycle are not eligible for the bonus or salary increase.
  • Employees hired after December 31, 2020, are not eligible for the bonus or salary increase.
  • The $2,300 minimum salary increase will be prorated for part-time, regular employees. For example, a half-time regular employee will receive an increase of 3% or $1,150, whichever is greater.

Some additional funds may be allocated for market adjustments. This increase is not tied to merit this year. All bonuses and salary increases are subject to a satisfactory performance evaluation for the 2020 calendar year.

With each passing day I am inspired by your commitment to your work and to this University, and I thank you for creating a supportive and resilient community during what has been a most difficult year. Thank you for your hard work, ongoing commitment and sacrifice to Austin Peay through the current public health crisis.

Sincerely,

Michael Licari

President
