Summer Flute Blast

 AUSTIN PEAY STATE UNIVERSITY

This day-long event will consist of a warm up session with Lisa Wolynec, Angela Reynolds, masterclasses with world-famous British flutist, William Bennett, flute choir with Angela Reynolds, Lisa Wolynec and Kelly Via and exhibitors who will have flutes, music and accessories.  The day will conclude with the students performing for friends, parents, directors and attendees of the William Bennett Summer Flute Academy.

By June 10, register and pay the non-refundable $25 registration fee. The registration fee is used to cover the cost of lunch, dinner, supplies, and music for the day.

One of the foremost musical artists of today, William Bennett teaches classes the world over.  He studied with Jean-Pierre Rampal and Marcel Moyse and has been principal flute of the London Symphony, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, and the English Chamber Orchestra.  In addition, he has made over 100 CD’s as a soloists including standard flute repertoire of Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, Mozart, neglected 19th century works, new works written specially for him. 

 He has been Professor of Flute in the Freiburg Hochschule of Music in Germany, and he teaches at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He has improved the tuning of the flute, and several makers in the world now make flute on the "William Bennett Scale".

 His many awards include the National Flute Association's "Lifetime Achievement Award", the British Flute Society's "Flautist Laureate and the "Flute of Gold" from the Italian Flute Society.  In January 1995 H.M. The Queen presented William Bennett with the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (O.B.E) for his distinguished Services to Music.  www.williambennettflute.com

 Kelly Via is a flute choir enthusiast, composer, arranger, performer, coordinator and conductor.  Several of Kelly’s arrangements and compositions have been recognized by the National Flute Association (NFA) and are published by Nourse Wind Publications.  He regularly performs with the NFA Professional Flute Choir and served as the NFA Flute Choir Coordinator for several years.  Some of his appearances as conductor/clinician include the Mid-Atlantic Flute Fair, the NFA National High School Flute Choir, the Florida State University Flute Choir and the New Jersey Flute Choir Day. 

  Kelly currently teaches flute at Mercer University and University of North Georgia where he also directs the flute choirs and chamber ensembles.  Additionally, he directs the Atlanta Metro Youth Flute Choir, which has been selected to performed at numerous conferences including the NFA, GMEA, MENC, Florida Flute Association and Flute Festival Mid-South.

 Kelly received the Bachelor of Music from Drake University and the Master of Music from East Carolina University.

  Kelly is the piccoloist with the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra and Macon Symphony Orchestra. For many years he was principal flutist of the former Atlanta Pops Orchestra and he was a charter member of the Georgia Sinfonia. He has performed with the Atlanta Symphony, Atlanta Opera, Augusta Symphony, Columbus Symphony, Des Moines Symphony and Des Moines Metro Opera orchestras. He has appeared as soloist with the Albany Symphony, Atlanta Pops, Columbus Symphony and Macon Symphony orchestras.

A native of Tennessee, Angela Collier-Reynolds attended Austin Peay State University, University of Northern Iowa, and West Virginia University.  Currently, she is Adjunct Professor of Flute at Fairmont State University, Adjunct Lecturer of Music at West Virginia University, and also serves as adjunct faculty member, teaching web-based courses for Austin Peay State University. Additionally she is a flutist with the Gateway Chamber Orchestra.  Prior to her time in West Virginia, Angela taught in Virginia Beach, Virginia where she maintained an active freelance schedule while also serving as principal substitute flutist for the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra (NC.) www.angelareynoldsflute.com

Lisa Read Wolynec is Professor of Flute at Austin Peay State University.  She received the Bachelor of Music and the Master of Music degrees in Flute Performance from the University of Illinois and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Flute Performance from Louisiana State University. She has had additional flute study in Manchester, England at the Royal College of Music with Trevor Wye and with William Bennett. She performs with the Gateway Chamber Orchestra and is principal flute with the Paducah Symphony Orchestra.  https://www.apsu.edu/music/facstaff/wolynecl.php
