2023 - 2024 Submission Guidelines
The Red Mud Review has been revamped! We are ready to hear your voice through writing. We look forward to reading diverse, underrepresented, and unique pieces of literature. Our goal is to include voices from Middle Tennessee that have yet to be heard. We would love to uplift and encourage anyone 18 years old and older to submit your important work. If you are having trouble submitting, please email us at redmudreview601@gmail.com. The deadline for submissions is midnight on March 10, 2023.
Guidelines for Submission
- All submissions should have a brief 1 –2 paragraph cover letter/bio that includes contact information (name, address, phone number, email) as well as the genre you are submitting to (Poetry, Fiction, Nonfiction/True Stories, Art) and the title(s) of your submission.
- All submissions must be previously unpublished; including personal blogs, social media and/or websites.
- Please only send original work. If your work quotes or borrows from other work, that source should receive credit. If the source is uncredited, your work will not be considered. .
- No edits will be accepted during submission period unless a revision is requested by an editor.
The average response time is 3-4 weeks. Our goal is to respond to every submission within this timeframe. Thank you for your time and patience!
If the work is accepted elsewhere after you submit to us, please email us immediately to withdraw it, and congratulations on your publication!
The Red Mud Review requires first North American serial rights upon acceptance; after publication, the rights revert back to the author.
Lastly, The Red Mud Review reserves the right to make minor grammatical adjustments to your piece, but larger revisions (if accepted) are the responsibility of the author.
Editors reserve the right to disqualify an author’s submission, release the author from any contract, and/or remove their work from our archives should their work be in conflict with the journal’s values.
Fiction: Manuscripts should be typed and double-spaced in a single Word Document. Manuscripts should be between 700-3,000 words.
Creative Nonfiction/True Stories: Manuscripts should be typed and double-spaced in a single Word Document. Manuscripts should be between 700-3,000 words.
Flash Pieces (Fiction or Creative Nonfiction/True Stories): Up to three flash pieces can be packaged as one submission in a single Word Document. Please submit them in the genre of your flash piece and state it as such.
Poetry: A maximum of three poems may be submitted in a single Word Document. Poems must be typed. No more than 75 lines or three pages for any single poem.
Art & Photography: In order to expedite the submission process, we request that art & photography are submitted electronically. Attach each image as a .jpg, .gif, or .png. Each image should not exceed 72 dpi. If accepted, we will request 300 dpi or higher resolution files.
