Photo Contest

APSU wants to see the world through your eyes! The Study Abroad Photo Contest allows you to share your experiences abroad with other APSU students, faculty, and staff. You could win extra spending cash if you have great photos from your time abroad!

Who is Eligible:

Current Austin Peay students, alumni, faculty, and staff who have studied abroad (short-term or long-term) with an APSU program.
Faculty and staff are not eligible for cash awards.
Alumni are eligible for cash awards ONLY if the study abroad/international experience took place during the academic year prior to graduation.

Photo Main Categories and Prizes:

Essence of Study Abroad: $100 - Best captures the spirit of studying abroad.
Best International Photo: $100 - Most striking international photo.

Other Prizes and Awards ($25 each):

APSU Spirit: Best displays APSU pride in an international setting.
Daily Life: Candid moments of everyday life abroad.
Best Comedic Photo: Funniest or most humorous photo.
Instagramable: Most social media-worthy shot.
Golden Group: Best group photo. (three or more students)
Local Culture: Highlights unique cultural aspects.
Magnificent Landscape: Stunning natural scenery.
People’s Choice: Voted favorite by the APSU community.
Most Artistic: Exceptional artistic representation.
APSU Administrator’s Choice: Selected by top University Official for special recognition.

Photo Guidelines:

Photos must reflect the scene as it appeared.
Acceptable alterations: color, contrast, brightness, sharpness; removal of dust and scratches; cropping; black and white conversions; HDMI (high dynamic range imaging).
Not acceptable: photo composites, addition, duplication, deletion, or moving of objects, artistic digital filters, and effects.
- Examples of artistic filters and effects that are not allowed are watercolor neon glow, posterizing, stained glass, and others that do not show the scene naturally.

Submission Requirements:

Hard Photo Copies: Submit 8” x 8” to 8” x 10” prints, mounted on 11” x 14” white or black mat board. Write your name on the back of each submission, and number each print if submitting multiple entries. Photos will be displayed in the UC lobby in front of Einstein’s Bagel during the Study Abroad Fair.
Entry Web Form: Complete the Entry Web Form below. Each participant can submit a maximum of 5 photos.
Media Release Form: Submit the Media Release Form and a digital copy of your photo(s) to internationaled@apsu.edu. Save your photo(s) in the following format: Last name_First name_location_term.jpg (i.e. Smith_Charles_Italy_Summer2015.jpg).

Terms and Conditions:

APSU cannot guarantee that entries will not be lost, stolen, or damaged during the contest. Contestants acknowledge this risk and will not hold APSU accountable for lost, stolen, or damaged property.

Judging:

Judging criteria include originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact, and artistic merit. All decisions by the judges are final and binding. Winners will be announced at the Spring 2025 Study Abroad Fair.

Video Contest

The APSU Study Abroad Video Contest is your opportunity to share your international journey and win $100!

Who is Eligible:

Current Austin Peay students, alumni, faculty, and staff (faculty and staff are not eligible for cash awards).
Alumni are eligible ONLY if the study abroad/international experience took place the year prior to graduation.

Prizes and Awards:

$100 for the video that best fulfills the requirements.

Video Requirements:

Max 3 videos per student.
Videos must be between 30 seconds to 2 minutes long.
Videos must be edited.
Must include a title page with your name, program name, location, and the term you studied abroad.
Videos must be uploaded to YouTube.

Selection Criteria:

Video Quality: Well-produced and edited with good image and sound quality.
Message: Should convey what being abroad meant to you and feature positive aspects of the experience, cultural and educational engagement, and APSU spirit.

Submission Requirements:

Send the link to your YouTube video(s) and the Media Release Form to internationaled@apsu.edu. Write "Video Contest" and your name in the subject line of the email (i.e., Video Contest 2025-John Smith).
