Biology, B.S.
The Department of Biology faculty have developed a broad-based course sequence that provides thorough training in the biological sciences. Regardless of their ultimate career choice, all majors take a 32-hour core of major courses consisting of general biology, animal diversity, plant diversity, bacteriology, general ecology, genetics, cell and molecular biology, and either plant or animal physiology. A year of general chemistry also is required. With advisement, students select the appropriate electives to fulfill their specific career objective. Elective courses include embryology, entomology, field zoology, field botany, parasitology, recombinant DNA technology, lab techniques, and individual research, among others. Students are encouraged to do research and to present and publish their findings.
