Recruiting Policies

The Office of Career Services has developed the following policies to ensure that Austin Peay State University students and alumni are treated fairly and are being recruited for viable positions. Employers and organizations recruiting Austin Peay students are expected to abide by and adhere to these policies, in addition to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Principles for Professional Practice and the Fair Labor Standards Act

Third-Party Recruiter Policy

The Office of Career Services does not endorse or recommend any third-party employment services.

According to the National Association of Colleges and Universities (NACE) “Principles for Career Services Professionals,” third-party recruiters are agencies, organizations, or individuals recruiting candidates for temporary, part-time, or full-time employment opportunities other than for their own needs. This includes entities that refer or recruit for profit or not for profit, and it includes agencies that collect student information to be disclosed to employers for purposes of recruitment and employment.

Third-party recruiters who are hiring for positions within their organization are welcome to recruit on campus and submit employment opportunities through Jobs4Govs, and must disclose to our office company information.

Job Type Restrictions

Commission-Only Employment

Employers and individuals offering employment/entrepreneurial opportunities must pay a base salary equal to or greater than the federal minimum wage and comply with federal, state, and local regulations.

Upfront Product Purchase

Employers and individuals offering employment/entrepreneurial opportunities with compensation packages requiring commission only or requiring prospective employees to purchase products or services upfront are not permitted to recruit on campus or attend career fairs.

Babysitting or other In-Home Personal Employment

We do not post babysitting jobs or other positions where an employee will work out of someone else's dwelling (house, apartment, condo, etc).

Principles for Professional Practice

Austin Peay students and alumni are expected to uphold the highest level of professional conduct when participating in on-campus recruiting activities. They are held accountable for inappropriate behavior such as not showing up for or cancelling interviews, misrepresenting themselves, or any other behavior that is questionable. As a result, students and alumni are a great representation of Austin Peay State University.

PLEASE NOTE: You will be required to provide Equal Opportunity Employment information during the registration process for our Jobs4Govs platform. All faculty, staff, internal and external employers are required to provide equal opportunity for all employment postings offered for students and alumni of Austin Peay State University. Please reference APSU Policy 6:001 Equal Opportunity, Harassment, and Nondiscrimination Policy for all Faculty, Students, Staff, Applicants and Third Parties, which addresses the University's policy on equal opportunity, affirmative action and nondiscrimination with regard to employees, applicants for employment, contractors, vendors, and students.
