Our Mission Statement

The Department of Criminal Justice supports APSU’s mission by preparing leaders in the field through an applied approach grounded in theory, research, and practice. The department uses an interdisciplinary approach to instill the core principles of: communication by emphasizing both clear and concise writing and public speaking; critical thinking through practical exercises; character building based on the values and characteristics common to criminal justice professionals; engaged citizenship by way of encouraging community and public service; and respect for diversity through understanding global, multi-cultural, and diverse societies. Graduates are prepared to meet the challenges of their future careers in criminal justice institutions and homeland security.
