Course permits
Advisors may be asked to put in waivers for students so that they can register for a class for which they do not have the appropriate prerequisites or when the class is full. When a student needs a permit, the appropriate advisor or instructor should email Ms. Emily Crain a request to enter the permit into the system allowing the student to register for a course.
Advisors should submit requests based on the following cases.
- If the student has other courses they can take without issuing any permits, then the student should be directed to those courses first.
- Permits for missing prerequisites in undergraduate courses
- If the student does not have the prerequisites for and cannot be full-time without
one of these courses
- CSCI 2600
- CSCI 2700
- In general, prerequisites for all other CSCI courses should not be waived. Exceptions may be approved by the department chair.
- If the student does not have the prerequisites for and cannot be full-time without
one of these courses
- Permits for full classes
- If a student would like to register for course that is full, the advisor or student
should email the instructor of the section the student wishes to enroll in and ask
for permission to enroll in the course. The decision for whether or not the student
may be allowed into course is up to the course instructor. If the instructor approves,
the instructor should submit a request for a permit to allow the student in the course.
- In the event that the instructor of the section cannot be reached, the advisor or student can contact the department chair or assistant department chair and ask for permission to take the course.
- For in-person courses, once the room capacity of reaches the capacity mandated by
the fire code, no additional students may be admitted to the course. The table below
lists the fire code limits for the classrooms most often used by CSCI instructors.
For other rooms, contact the department chair.
